Learn From Play is excited to yet again be the official provider of resources for the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) National Simultaneous Storytime. With 22 activities already available on the Learn From Play site we have one more activity at the end of this article.

An annual event, this year's celebration at 11am on May 25th, marks the 22nd National Simultaneous Storytime. Expected to be the biggest yet, there will be more than 2 million participants from 40 thousand locations joining in the festivities!

A colourful, vibrant, fun event National Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value and fun of books. Using storytime activities in libraries and communities it provides an opportunity to involve parents, grandparents, carers and educators in a single shared celebration of literacy and reading.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is chosen and this year it is Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh published by Scholastic. This book explores age-appropriate themes of family, growth and life cycle for Foundation to Year 6.

It is free to register to be part of National Simultaneous Storytime and either before or after your reading of the book make sure you grab the activities we have made here.

With 22 art and craft, cutting and pasting, colouring in, puzzles, drawing and games tied to the book’s themes already available on the Learn From Play site we also have one more special activity to mark the lead up to the event.

This is a super simple activity that celebrates the growth of the family in the story and the interwoven nature of their lives and those of their community. Either use the instructions below or click to print off a copy to use later.
