Salih Book Activities Games
Overview
This 2022 CBCA's Notable Children's Picture Book follows a young boy as he leaves him home and becomes a refugee. He must carry his home with him in a backpack like a turtle as he attempts to find a same place to become his new home.
Perfect for children across all of Primary School from Foundation to Year 6 this book explores what it means to be happy, to have family and to have a home. A story or hope and unexpected beauty in art. Salih is trying to get to the sea and hopefully a new life in a new country with people he meets along the way teaching him that art can help him escape for a short time.
The five activities that the team at Learn From Play have made for this book are a graphing activity to understand refugees, a drawing of a happy memory, a comprehension on refugees in Australia, an activity to draw a turtle and a turtle origami. This book is a perfect gateway into a study of asylum seekers and refugees and the people who become displaced as they flee war. It could also allow you to look at the countries which accept refugees and what it means for the citizens of these countries when immigrants flock in from neighbouring countries.
