Australia Reads

Learn From Play is excited to be the official resource provider for Australia Reads 2021. Celebrated across Australia, on Tuesday 14 September 2021, this is designed to get more Australians reading more books, more often.

A not-for-profit joint initiative between the Australian Booksellers Association, Australian Library & Information Association, Australian Publishers Association and the Australian Society of Authors. Working together these organisations are driven by a common interest in championing the extraordinary joy and pleasure to be had in reading. Held annually since 2012, Australia Reads promotes the many benefits of reading books and increasing the discoverability and accessibility of work by Australian book creators.

In the past 12 months there has been a 30% increase in the number of Australians reading books for pleasure (Families in Australia Survey: Life during COVID-19, Australian Institute of Family Studies, 2021). Australia Reads aims to build on this reading revival to increase the number of Australians reading and the frequency with which they read.

The ultimate goal of Australia Reads is to transform how Australian’s approach reading so that it becomes a healthy daily habit akin to exercising for 30 minutes, drinking 8 cups of water or cleaning your teeth morning and night. Reading is a fun way to improve wellbeing and happiness that should be encouraged as a healthy regular habit to improve outcomes for all Australians.

Learn From Play are the official provider of activities and games for the 4 new Australia Reads special edition books. With all 4 books to be published on September 1st these are just $4.99 each to make them easily accessible to all. These 4 books were created by the award-winning team of Ursula Dubosarsky and Andrew Joyner, acclaimed YA rom-com writer Jenna Guillaume, dynamic duo of Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith and First Dog on the Moon and hilarious AFL kids’ series writers Nicole Hayes and Adrian Beck.

We have everything you need to get the most out of these books once you have finished reading them. We have made more than 20 activities for these books from simple cutting and pasting and fine motor activities to research and reading comprehensions. There are a couple of drawing activities, some cooking activities and a whole lot of puzzles and games including a cross-word, a find-a-word and a griddler or nonogram puzzle to draw a recognisable space related picture.
